![]() One of the selection criteria for the volunteers is that I passed the personal interview, to which thousands of those wishing to participate in volunteering at the exhibition submitted, followed by the stage of qualifying and training our operation teams for the 54 session of the Cairo International Book Fair, by the United Nations Volunteers Program, all of this was done with standards and professionalism to select good volunteers who're capable of volunteering efficiently and effectively. Proud that we have a great initiative in our country helping youth to engage in organizing a huge event like Cairo international book fair helping people from inside and outside Egypt and have the best experience there. It was my pleasure to be one of the organizers of the Cairo International Fair in its 54th session, proud to have participated in organizing an important international event, It was a wonderful experience added a lot to me. Set against a backdrop of our complex SA. The book is everything a biography should be: synthesising Rive’s philosophy and meaning of life, the events of his life and reviving his own books, important canons in SA literature. He was sadly murdered in 1989, an act which seemed to be precipitated by the perpetrators own feelings of vulnerability rooted in their inequality. Yet he was unfairly denied a post at UCT due to the colour of his skin. Rive was also engaged in fighting racism and in promoting English literature as an academic discipline across the African continent. The book which originated in Shaun’s research for his own doctorate gives insight into the life of a complex scholar who despite the constraints of Apartheid SA managed to complete a Masters degree in education at Columbia University and a PhD in English literature at Oxford University. He also taught my uncles, my mom’s older brothers. I grew up hearing about Rive as he was my mom’s English teacher at high school in Cape Town. I finally read biography of SA writer and literature scholar Dr Richard Rive written by Dr Shaun Viljoen, an Associate Professor of English literature at Stellenbosch.
